Meteo-40 data logger

I cannot connect to the web interface. What can I do?

In order to log in the Meteo-40 web interface, the data logger has to be connected to the power supply and the CECS (Configuration, Evaluation, and Communication System) subsystem of the data logger has to be switched on (manually or according to the configured schedule). The online periods can conveniently configured in menu Communication-Schedule of the Meteo-40 web interface. To switch on CECS manually, press the middle button on the data logger.

If you use AmmonitOR, you can monitor the online periods (Connection Log) of the data logger (the data logger has to be configured in a project).

How can I configure slope and offset parameters for the sensors?

You can conveniently configure all connected sensors via the Meteo-40 web interface. Slope and offset parameters can be added in the Sensorhelper. It is displayed when sensor settings are modified or added in the menu Measurement-Sensors of the Meteo-40 web interface.

Why does the tunnel connection not work?

If your data logger is not accessible via tunnel, there can be different causes:

  1. You can only access the data logger via tunnel, when the CECS (Configuration, Evaluation, and Communication System) subsystem is switched on according to the scheduled online periods. If you have an AmmonitOR account, you can monitor the connections (Connection Log) of your data logger (AmmonitOR project with your data logger is required).

  2. The data logger currently performs other actions, e.g., installing an upgrade or uploading data files. In this case wait a few minutes and try again to log in.

  3. Another user is currently logged in and downloads files. Wait a few minutes and try again to log in.

  4. The subdomain of the data logger has been changed, i.e. another user has changed or added the Tunnel affix in the Communication-Online menu of the data logger. Ask for the new URL. If not possible, contact Ammonit.

The URL of your data logger is displayed in AmmonitOR. You only require a project with your data logger in AmmonitOR.

I receive measurement data sent by the data logger, but I cannot access the web interface via tunnel?

The tunnel connection seems to be not stable enough. This can have several reasons:

  • The GPRS connection might be very weak. Switch to GSM. Ask your provider for the dial-in number (P-to-P). The dial-in number has to be configured in the Meteo-40 web interface. An APN does not have to be entered.

  • The signal might be very weak. Replace the installed antenna with a Yagi directional antenna. The Yagi antenna can be aligned to a near transmitting station to receive a better signal.

  • Instead of using a standard SIM card with dynamic IP address, insert a SIM card with public IP address into the modem. The data logger can be accessed via its public IP address and/or via the domain provided by the tunnel server, if configured.

If your data logger is registered in AmmonitOR, you can be find its public IP address on AmmonitOR. If your data logger is not registered in AmmonitOR, you have to use a SIM card with static IP adress.

How can I perform a firmware upgrade?

Before you perform an upgrade, make sure your data logger is connected to the Internet, e.g. via modem or LAN. Log in as Admin and go to the System-Upgrade menu of the web interface to start the upgrade process.

Make sure that the power supply to the data logger is not interrupted during the upgrade process.

Is it possible to download data files on a USB memory stick?

Yes, you can save generated CSV files to a USB memory stick which has to be configured before. Refer to the Meteo-40 manual to configure the USB memory stick properly.

Meteo-32 data logger

Which input channels are available and how do I configure slope and offset values?

Depending on the data logger type (Meteo-32X, Meteo-32 or Wicom-32) a different number of input channels are available. Meteo-32X offers:

  • 3x wind speed
  • 2x wind direction
  • 1x relative air humidity
  • 1x air temperature
  • 1x global radiation
  • 1x precipitation
  • 1x 16-bit counter
  • 1x 12-bit ADC
  • 2x status

You can connect all sensors to the Meteo-32 data logger, which are listed with a P order number (see data sheets).

You configure parameters for slope and offset in the CALLaLOG software. To do so, a connection to the data logger is required, e.g. direct PC-to-data logger or remote connection PC-modem-data logger.

For further details refer to the Meteo-32 manual.

How can I configure the data logger sending data via email?

The following requirements have to be considered for sending data via email:

  • A modem (e.g. TC63) has to be connected to the data logger
  • Firmware version 1.7 or later has to be installed on the data logger
  • Your provider should support GPRS services
  • The email server should be of type AUTH

You configure the email settings in the software CALLaLOG. Fill all fields in menu GPRS.

You can also configure via SMS command "M".

For detailed instructions refer to the Meteo-32 manual.

Why does the GSM connection not work?

There can be different reasons for a non-working GSM connection.

If an error is shown in the Meteo-32 display, e.g. modem failed, Pin failed or network failed, the cause can be:

  • SIM card does not support CSD services (Circuit Switched Data)
  • Bad GSM network coverage in the region
  • Provider changed settings its services
  • Wrong Pin, locked SIM card or wrong CSD number
  • Error on modem (problem with software / hardware) or defect modem
  • Lightning strike
  • Error on data logger

The data channel has to be active to enable data transmission. Often this channel uses another number, which you can get from your provider.

In case of insufficient power supply, the modem cannot be activated. Thus no GSM connection can be set up.

How can I upgrade the data logger firmware?

The latest firmware version and instruction, how an upgrade has to be performed, can be downloaded here.

How can I convert original values into readable data?

You can convert original data into readable data using the CALLaLOG software program. A detailed instruction can be downloaded here.

How can I upload data files to AmmonitOR?

Depending on the data logger type, there are several ways to upload data to AmmonitOR:

  • Automatic upload of data files generated by Meteo-40 via SCP: Select in the Meteo-40 web interface AmmonitOR in the Communication-FTP/SCP menu and enter the Project key displayed in AmmonitOR in the appropriate field. According to the times configured in the Meteo-40 schedule, data is automatically uploaded. The Project key is used to assign data to projects.

  • Manual import of CSV files generated by Meteo-40: If you have write permission for the AmmonitOR project, you can easily upload data files. Go the Upload Data page in menu Data, select the data logger and browse for the CSV files.

CSV files created by Meteo-40 are compressed using GZip. Decompress the files prior to upload.

  • Automatic emailing of data files generated by Meteo-32 data loggers: Configure the GPRS settings of the data logger in the CALLaLOG software. It is important to enter aor [at] in the field Copy to. In order to identify the data logger, all mandatory fields in AmmonitOR, i.e. serial number, logger type etc. have to be filled.

  • Manual import of data files generated by Meteo-32 data loggers: Only AmmonitOR users with write permission are allowed to import data. On page Upload Data in menu Data you can select your data logger and browse for the files which should be imported.

Can I run AmmonitOR on my own server?

Yes, we can install AmmonitOR on your server. Please ask for an offer and the system requirements.

Why I cannot see uploaded data in my project?

It can have several reasons, why data is not shown in AmmonitOR.

  • Check whether the Project key of the AmmonitOR project is correctly entered in the Meteo-40 web interface.

  • The import process of your recently uploaded data files is not finished. Wait a few minutes and display the data again.

  • Check whether all entries in the CALLaLOG software of your Meteo-32 data logger and in AmmonitOR have correctly been made. Even transposed numbers can stop the import process.

Is my data safe on AmmonitOR?

In order to monitor your projects, measurement data can be accessed via encrypted HTTPS connection. The upload of files generated by Meteo-40 data loggers is based on the SCP protocol to protect data from unauthorized access; files are decrypted using the industry standard Open SSH. All browser sessions are encrypted based on the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol.
