Wind Energy

Wind energy is converted sun energy

The sun radiates energy onto the earth at an hourly rate of 174,423,000,000,000 kW hours. The earth is heated unevenly by the sun – the atmosphere heats up much more quickly in the equator regions than in the rest of the globe and dry land heats up (and cools down) more quickly than the oceans do.

Wind Ressource Assessment

Prior to setting up a wind farm, the local wind conditions have to be measured for site assessment. Based on the data collected consultants calculate the expected wind energy yield. We design your site-specific wind measurement system with appropriate sensors, communication and power supply system.

Power Performance Measurements

Power performance measurements on wind turbines involve measuring the wind speed, the power output and comparing that to the warranted power curve. It can also include measuring temperature and air pressure in order to make corrections for air density.

Wind Park Monitoring / SCADA

Once a wind park is set up and running, its best performance has to be ensured. To do so, it is essential to monitor and check its operation. Our Meteo-40 data loggers can easily be integrated in SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems to provide reliable comparative meteorological data. Predictions about the annual energy production of a wind farm can be verified by evaluating the measurement data.

Wind Measurement in Cold Climate

For measurement campaigns in cold climate regions it is essential to carefully select the measurement instruments. Particularly icing of sensors and the wrong met mast construction can lead to measurement errors and loss of data. Reliable power consumption is crucial to heat the measurement system properly.
